Mopar Service
Factory oil service, tire care and mileage intervals for the Compass turbo engine.

Quick Answer
- Change the oil and filter when the oil change message comes on.
- Factory maximum interval is 10,000 miles, one year or 350 engine hours, whichever comes first.
- Inspect the brakes and battery at each oil service.
- Cabin air filter service is due every 12,000 miles.
Jeep Portsmouth services the 2027 Compass at 2355 Lafayette Road in Portsmouth. The Compass uses one turbo engine across the U.S. lineup, so the factory oil schedule applies from Latitude through Trailhawk. Drivers from Dover, Exeter and Somersworth see the same schedule, while their actual oil change reminder can arrive at different mileage depending on how they drive.
2027 Compass Recommended Maintenance Schedule
The oil change reminder and the mileage chart cover different jobs. The dashboard calls for oil service based on engine use. The mileage and time chart covers periodic inspections, filters, coolant and spark plugs. Most chart entries use whichever comes first, time or miles. Spark plugs and the cabin air filter have their own mileage-based intervals. 2027 Compass owner’s manual.
| When | Factory work |
|---|
| Oil change indicator | Change oil and filter and perform scheduled inspections |
| 12,000 miles | Replace cabin air filter |
| 20,000 miles or 2 years | Inspect brake linings, front suspension, steering and CV joints |
| 30,000 miles or 3 years | Replace engine air filter and inspect CV joints |
| 60,000 and 120,000 miles | Replace spark plugs |
| 10 years or 150,000 miles | Replace engine coolant at whichever comes first |
At an oil service, the maintenance plan also calls for inspecting the battery and terminals, brakes and brake hoses, cooling system and hoses, CV joints and exhaust. A Compass that spends time in dusty or unpaved conditions gets an engine air filter inspection then too. At Jeep Portsmouth we can handle those jobs together when the Compass comes into the shop.

Oil Change Intervals and Recommended Oil
The 2027 owner's manual calls for service within 500 miles once the oil change message appears. The outer limit is 10,000 miles, one year or 350 engine hours, whichever comes first. The hour limit is especially relevant to a vehicle that spends a lot of time idling while parked. Frequent short trips, towing and very hot or cold temperatures can bring the reminder on sooner.
Mopar specifies SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil meeting FCA Material Standard MS-13340, with API SP and GF-6A certification. The manual also describes an equivalent full synthetic 5W-30 API SP oil bearing the API certification mark. The 2.0-liter engine takes 5 U.S. quarts (4.7 liters) with a new filter. We replace the filter with the oil and reset the reminder after service.
A Compass used for several short stops on Lafayette Road can see a different oil interval from a Compass that runs farther between Dover and Rochester on the Spaulding Turnpike. In cold weather the short-trip vehicle may have more starts and less time at operating temperature. The indicator uses engine operation, and the time limit also applies to a vehicle that accumulates little mileage.

Major Service Milestones
20,000 miles or two years
The periodic chart starts by checking the brake linings, front suspension, tie-rod ends, boot seals and CV joints. An inspection helps distinguish a worn part that needs work from a part that can stay in service.
30,000 miles or three years
Replace the engine air cleaner filter and inspect the CV joints. The filter has its own recurring schedule, with later replacements at 60,000, 90,000, 120,000 and 150,000 miles or the corresponding year intervals.
60,000 miles
The turbo four's first spark plug replacement is due at 60,000 miles. The plug interval is mileage based. At the 60,000-mile or six-year checkpoint, the other work includes the engine air filter and inspections of brake linings, suspension, steering ends and CV joints.
Ten years or 150,000 miles
The engine coolant has a time limit as well as a mileage limit. A low-mileage Compass can reach the coolant service at ten years. A Compass covering more ground can reach the 150,000-mile limit sooner. The factory fluid is an OAT coolant meeting MS.90032.

Brake linings and front suspension are on the periodic chart every 20,000 miles or two years through 140,000 miles. The CV joints are listed at every chart interval beginning at 20,000 miles or two years. At 140,000 miles or 14 years the chart calls for PCV valve inspection, and at 150,000 miles or 15 years it calls for inspecting the accessory drive belt, tensioner and idler pulley.
Common Compass Service Items in New Hampshire
Tires. Rotate at the first sign of uneven wear, even if the oil reminder has yet to appear. The manual identifies a forward-cross pattern for the Compass, subject to the type of tire fitted. The service team can check the tread across each tire and look for alignment wear after a winter of freeze-thaw potholes near Epping and Lee.
Brakes. Brake work begins with an inspection of the friction material, rotors, hoses and operation. Salt and wet grit along the shore road in Rye and North Hampton can collect around exposed brake hardware. A brake inspection after a salty winter gives the technician a chance to check how the pads are wearing and how the hardware moves.
Cabin air filter and wipers. Jeep calls for the cabin filter every 12,000 miles. It filters the air sent through the vents, a separate job from the engine filter. The wipers and washer are also worth checking before a trip along Route 1A in spray or slush.
Battery. The oil service includes a battery inspection. A battery test and a look at the terminals help the shop identify a weak battery or a loose connection when the starter is slow on a cold morning.

Compass Reliability and Durability
The 2.0-liter turbo engine uses a direct-injection fuel system and a conventional automatic transmission. On a Trailhawk that sees loose or dusty ground, the manual calls for inspecting the engine air filter at oil service and replacing it if needed. The Trailhawk's skid plates protect components underneath. A look at the underbody after contact with a rough surface can catch damage the driver cannot see from the seat.
Brakes, tires and suspension are the service items that feel the Seacoast's winter most directly. In Hampton the mix of damp air, salt and short trips affects the inspection conversation. Around Exeter and Rochester, pothole impacts can show up as uneven wear or a steering wheel that no longer sits straight. Jeep Portsmouth can check the brakes, tires and alignment on the same visit.
A Compass used for work can add engine hours while it is standing still. That is why the manual gives an engine-hour limit in addition to miles and elapsed time. A household Compass that spends most of its time parked can reach the elapsed-time limit instead. Both schedules call for the same oil specification and a new filter.
The periodic chart calls for inspections throughout ownership. Front suspension and tie-rod ends are checked at repeated milestones, and the CV joint inspection carries through the chart. Owners who use the Compass near the shore in winter can have the shop look at the exposed hardware during the same visit as scheduled maintenance. That keeps tire, brake and steering checks in one service record.
What a 2027 Compass Costs to Own
Plan separately for fuel, scheduled service and wear items. For a fuel budget, divide your annual mileage by the factory-label 24 mpg combined figure and multiply by your local price per gallon. Substitute your own measured mileage once you know how much fuel the Compass uses on your routes. Oil and filter service comes up as the vehicle uses its oil life. Tire rotation and brake checks ride with that visit when needed. Mileage adds separate line items like a cabin filter, an engine filter or a set of spark plugs. A brake replacement, new tires or an alignment is a separate cost when wear or damage calls for the work.
The new Jeep basic limited warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, and the powertrain limited warranty lasts five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Those are factory coverage terms. Maintenance such as oil, filters and worn tires remains part of the normal cost of driving. Our Jeep service department can provide an estimate for the work on your vehicle.

2027 Compass Maintenance FAQs
Does towing affect the Compass oil change reminder?
Yes. The 2027 owner’s manual says towing, short trips and very hot or cold temperatures can bring the oil change message on sooner. The indicator accounts for operating conditions. Plan for earlier oil service if the reminder appears before a calendar or mileage interval you had in mind.
How soon should I bring the Compass in after the oil message?
The 2027 owner’s manual calls for an oil change as soon as possible and within 500 miles of the message. The schedule also sets an outer limit of 10,000 miles, one year or 350 engine hours. Go by the first limit or the earlier reminder.
Is a new oil filter included in the Compass oil change?
Yes. Mopar pairs a new filter with the oil change. The 2.0-liter turbo engine takes 5 U.S. quarts with a new filter. The recommended oil is SAE 5W-30 full synthetic meeting MS-13340 and the manual’s API SP/GF-6A specification. The capacity applies to a filter change.
When does Jeep specify a tire rotation?
Jeep calls for a rotation at the first sign of irregular wear, even before the oil change indicator comes on. The manual includes tire checks at oil service. If one tire is wearing differently from the others, check its pressure and ask for the tread pattern to be inspected during the rotation.
What does the cabin air filter do in a Compass?
The cabin filter catches particles in the air that comes through the passenger vents. Jeep schedules its replacement every 12,000 miles. The engine air filter serves the engine intake and follows a separate schedule, so a cabin filter change and engine air filter change are separate jobs.
When are spark plugs due if I drive very little?
Spark plugs follow mileage. The first replacement is at 60,000 miles and the second is at 120,000 miles. A Compass driven only a few miles each week reaches those points later, while oil and coolant still have separate time limits in the factory schedule.
Can I bring my Compass for oil service and a brake check on the same visit?
Yes. The maintenance schedule already calls for a brake inspection at oil service. If you hear a scrape, feel a vibration or notice a change in pedal feel, mention the speed and road conditions when you book. That helps the technician distinguish a routine inspection from a specific braking complaint.
