The vehicle
The Recon is a five-seat electric midsize SUV and the first fully electric vehicle Jeep has given a Trail Rated badge. It arrives in a single trim, Moab, at $66,995 delivered, with a longer-range trim announced for later. Two 250 kW drive modules make a combined 650 horsepower and 620 lb-ft, drawing on a 400-volt, 100.5-kWh battery for an EPA-rated 222 miles. The doors, rear quarter glass and swing gate glass all come off without tools, which on the NH Seacoast is what people buy Jeeps for between May and October. Drivers reach us on Lafayette Road, which is Route 1, from Dover, Exeter, Rochester, Hampton and Newmarket, from the Great Bay towns, and over the Piscataqua River Bridge from Maine.
What is new here is the whole vehicle: 2026 is the Recon's first model year. Standard equipment on the Moab runs to 33-inch all-terrain tires, a rear electronic locking differential, 9.1 inches of ground clearance, steel underbody shields, a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen and a 12.3-inch cluster. The one specification that reframes everything else is the EPA city rating of 250 miles, which is higher than the highway rating and the reverse of what a gas driver expects.
