One scope point buyers get wrong on every electric SUV: a driver-assistance system that centres the vehicle in its lane is not self-driving. Active Driving Assist is hands-on-wheel and eyes-on-road by design, and it is a genuinely useful commuting tool inside those limits.

Driving assistance
Active Driving Assist is Jeep's lane-centring system, and it is hands-on-wheel and eyes-on-road by design. It uses cameras and sensors to keep the vehicle centred in its lane and accelerates or brakes as conditions require, which on the I-95 stretch between Portsmouth and the state line removes most of the tedium from a commute without removing the driver from the job.
It is not a hands-free system and Jeep does not describe it as one. Anything that asks you to keep your hands on the wheel is asking because it needs you there. Used as intended, on a limited-access road, it is the difference between arriving tired and arriving fine.
Rough Road Cruise Control is the Recon's other cruise system and it is the more unusual one. It holds a set speed but automatically slows the vehicle when it detects rough surfaces, which is a genuinely useful thing on a frost-heaved back road in March rather than a marketing line.
On every Recon
These come on every Recon Moab, no package required. Blind Spot Monitoring, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree surround-view camera are all standard, and Jeep names Rough Road Cruise Control and Pedestrian Emergency Braking among the standard set as well.
The surround-view camera earns its place twice over here. In a Hampton car park in August it saves paint; on a narrow gravel track it shows you where the front tires actually are, which no mirror can. It displays through the 14.5-inch screen.

The Fully Autonomous Parking System uses sensors and contour detection to steer the vehicle into a space. ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist with Active Rear Park Warning works while you are parking manually: it watches for a front or rear collision and can bring the vehicle to a full stop on its own.
