Those are the headline numbers; what follows is what they mean with a family, a beach day and a Route 1A car park in July. The Recon's swing gate opens sideways rather than upward, the spare lives on the outside of it, and the frunk exists specifically so the charging cables never end up on top of the groceries.

The seats
5 seats across two rows, with a folding second row that opens the floor up to 65.9 cubic feet. Front seats are heated eight-way power units with memory and lumbar support, standard on the Moab.
The 57.6 inches of second-row shoulder room is what makes three across genuinely workable rather than technically possible, which matters if you are running two child seats and a third passenger to a birthday party in Stratham. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, so the front row is not negotiating a single temperature.
Interior trim comes in Black or Joshua Tree, with recycled content in the headliner and carpets, and rugged all-weather mats front, second row and rear cargo area. That last one is not a small detail on a coast: sand, salt and wet dogs are the year-round reality, and a rubber floor you can hose is worth more than any fabric.
Getting things in
The tailgate is a side-opening swing gate carrying a full-size spare, not a lift-up hatch. That changes how you load: you swing it wide and step straight in, with no roof-height door over your head, which is easier under a low garage ceiling and in the rain. It also means you need clearance behind the vehicle to open it, so think about how you park nose-in at Hampton Beach State Park.
The swing gate glass comes out, and so do the rear quarter glass and the doors, all without tools. With the glass removed, long items load through the back of the vehicle in a way a sealed hatch does not allow. Load floor height is 35.1 inches and the sill step is 22.4 inches, which is a genuine lift for a heavy cooler and worth knowing before you buy.
Inside, the two-tiered pass-through centre console handles the small chaos, and a wireless charging pad is available. The 3.0-cubic-foot frunk under the hood is the dry, separate space for cables and anything you would rather not put next to the shopping.

Around here
Two local realities decide how a family uses a vehicle here, and both favour this one. The first is summer traffic: Route 1A backs up from late June to Labor Day, and stop-and-go is where an electric drivetrain is at its best and a gas engine at its worst. The Recon is rated at 250 miles in the city and 196 on the highway, so a beach summer costs it less than a highway summer would.
The second is that beach and trail gear is wet, sandy and salty for four months of the year. Rubber mats in all three zones, a swing gate you can load standing up, and a separate front trunk for the things you never want touching anything else add up to a car that survives an Exeter-to-Hampton August without permanently smelling of it.
