The 2026 Grand Wagoneer offers one gasoline engine, and it is the same one whether you buy the $63,995 base configuration or the $100,310 Summit Reserve: a 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six rated 420 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 468 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. For NH buyers the structural fact most often gotten wrong is the one worth stating first: there is no engine upgrade to shop for. Money spent moving up this lineup buys cabin materials, screens, audio and suspension hardware, never power.
The second thing worth getting right is what this engine is not. Through 2025 the Grand Wagoneer name carried a High Output version of the Hurricane six making 510 horsepower. For 2026 that engine is gone from the lineup, and every configuration runs the Standard Output tune. A great deal of what is written about this vehicle online still describes the 510-horsepower car. Jeep anticipates total range upwards of 500 miles and quotes zero to sixty in five seconds. The Hurricane is a 2,993-cubic-centimetre inline six with a 3.31-inch bore and a 3.54-inch stroke, running a 10.4:1 compression ratio with direct injection and two turbochargers. Peak power is 420 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and peak torque is 468 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm.
What matters about the straight-six layout is not the number of cylinders but where they sit. An inline six is inherently balanced in a way a V-configuration is not, so the engine produces less vibration at the crankshaft and needs less counterweighting to feel smooth. In a vehicle weighing between 5,730 and 6,444 pounds depending on configuration, that shows up as an engine you stop noticing on a long NH highway run. Torque peaks at 3,500 rpm rather than near the redline, which is the practical difference in a heavy three-row SUV: merging onto Route 1 with a full third row does not require winding the engine out.
Fuel is the detail most often reported wrong. Jeep recommends mid-grade 89 octane and lists regular 87 octane as acceptable. Premium is neither required nor recommended, and all four configurations are certified by the EPA on regular gasoline. If you see a claim that this engine requires premium, it does not.
Jeep publishes no zero-to-sixty time for the 420-horsepower Grand Wagoneer, and we are not going to invent one. The acceleration time widely circulated online belongs to the discontinued 510-horsepower High Output car and does not describe the 2026 vehicle. The only acceleration claim Jeep makes for 2026 is the five-second estimate for the REEV described above. If acceleration is central to your decision, drive one; that is a more useful number than anything we could print.
Every 2026 Grand Wagoneer uses the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic, an 8HP75 with five clutches, four planetary gear sets and an 8.6 overall ratio spread. There is no manual and no alternative automatic. The wide ratio spread is what lets one gearbox serve both a 468 lb-ft tow rating in the low gears and relaxed highway cruising in eighth.
Drivetrain is where the real choice lives, and it is a two-part choice: rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, and then which transfer case.

The bundling that matters: the 3.92 axle is what unlocks the 10,000-pound tow rating, and it arrives only with the heavy-duty trailer tow package, which also brings the two-speed transfer case and the electronic limited-slip differential. The EPA certifies four separate configurations of the 2026 Grand Wagoneer, and they do not return the same numbers. Publishing one figure for the whole lineup would be wrong by up to two miles per gallon, so here is each certified configuration on its own row (fueleconomy.gov).

Two things in that table are worth pausing on. The long-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer L in rear-wheel drive returns exactly the same figures as the short-wheelbase car, so the longer body costs nothing at the pump in that configuration. Only the four-wheel-drive L gives up ground, and it gives up two on the highway, which matters on a long NH run. Meanwhile the L's larger 30.5-gallon tank means that despite the lower rating it travels further between stops than the short-wheelbase car does. On a run up the coast toward Kittery and York, or inland on Route 101 toward Epping, that difference is a stop you do not make.
With one engine in the lineup, the real question is not which engine but which driveline to pair it with. These are the four builds worth considering.
